Foals
Foals
Total Life Forever
Release: May 10
'Total Life Forever' the follow up to their 08 release 'Antidotes' was released everywhere today. Foals have crafted an album this go round that has given them identity. It's dark, ghostly and deceptive. Each song starting out as one thing and ending up as something else. With confusing guitars and calculated electronics it will take more than just one listen to discover each songs complexity.

If your expecting the party bangers that Foals previously produced you wont find them(although 'Miami' has it's moments). What is there is the maturity of the Oxford five-piece that has recorded an album based on emotion and mood. This is a definite step forward for the band and shouldn't be looked at as anything else.

B.o.B. and Eminem
The emergence of one rapper, and the resurgence of another.
B.o.B. hails from the ATL, and is making a good impression quickly. With a sample-an-indie-rock-song-for-your chorus style, a'la Chiddy Bang, and credible appearances from T.I.
, Eminem
, Lupe Fiasco
, Hayley Williams of Paramore
, and other stars it's difficult to not give him credibility. While it is tough to figure out if 'Bobby Ray' has a style of his own that is built to last based on just this album, it is even tougher to argue that he didn't produce one of the best rap albums in a long while
.
A side-story of this album is Eminem making an efforted comeback to the rap scene. His verse on B.o.B.'s Airplanes pt. 2 is one of his most emotional and well put together dissections of the English language since Lose Yourself
dropped. After listening to his verse for the first time, I felt inclined to go outside, workout twice, and pull an all-nighter every night for the next 2 months. Couple this with his self-realization and critique of his childish, annoying and unnecessary voices used on Relapse
, and it is tough to not anticipate his next release
. Airplanes pt. 2, The Despicable Freestyle in which he takes shots at Ben Roethlisberger, and Not Afraid (the first single off of Recovery
) are three consecutive strong showings for Em, and are a positive sign that he may have one more classic rap album left in the tank.

LCD Soundsystem
New to LCD Soundsystem? Don't feel that bad. James Murphy's previous releases had some moments, danceable yes, but always lacked that je na sais quoi quality(those previous albums did recieve a few grammys). But this soon to be released album, 'This Is Happening' has had a slightly different effect in its short leaked existence. I'm a fan.
About two weeks ago I found myself surrounded by 75,000 other coachellians under the desert sun and a song I never heard "All My Friends" started to play and it hit me how good this really is. That song ended and next we were were treated to what seemed to be a rather long intro to a song off the awaited album not too many were familar with..yet. 'Dance Yrself Clean' will leave you wanting to relive that feeling you got when you heard "that part" for the first time(trust me you'll know what part). I have been trying to relive this moment since. If you figure out how to do this please let me know, otherwise you can always just start the song over like I have done repeatedly since.

Pogo - Upular (Rynecologist Edit)
Pogo is a music producer that specializes in creating songs entirely from sounds within movies. He's pretty much a genius at it. Here's what he did with "Hook":
Impressive, eh? Head over to his website to read more about this guy and see the rest of his videos as well as a collection of his discography.
Finally, I want to leave you with the song that schooled me to Pogo. It is composed of sounds taken from Pixar's "Up." Rynecologist edited it slightly and had this to say about it, "I know the track is no different from the original because on a creative standpoint, I wanted to keep the essence of Pogo’s great micro-sampling in it’s genuine state. In a DJ’s perspective, I personally made it for myself so people could groove to it at a bar/club/event. I wasn’t expecting a copious amount of people responding to it. Let alone downloading it." And he really didn't change much at all. I haven't compared them too much, but he probably just lengthened some sections to make mixing easier.
It's funny Rynecologist used the words "groove to it at a bar/club/event" because this song will definitely make you want to groove no matter where you are.
