Steroheroes - Juke Dem Hoes

I feel like my posts haven't necessarily been living up to the amount of electro crunk I like. The picture above picture pretty much sums up this (literally) filthy song by Stereoheroes.

Phonat

Phonat is a London based, Italian Born super DJ who is somewhat new on arrival. Supposedly standing 7ft tall he has an immediate fan in me, and having just released his self-titled debut album in such a short amount of time only makes his appeal even more evident. I first heard this remix of 'Set Me Free' from Mike Skinners Beat Stevie radio show and haven't been able to avoid it since.

Solid Weekend

Very successful weekend. I went 100% in fantasy football leagues (pending 3 points from DeAngelo Williams tonight), 100% in blacking out every night out in Orlando, discovered about 4 new TV shows I need to start watching, tried some good scotch, and I've accomplished absolutely nothing today. It's been a perfect day to catch up on the backed-up list of songs I've been meaning to sample. After spending several hours on the couch, listening very intently to around 100 songs just for you, I bring you the best songs from this weekend:

Benny Blanco

Michael Jackson - Ain't No Sunshine (Benny Blanco Remix) - (MP3)

Big Boi

Lil Jon!?

Jack Penate

Sunday is always a busy day for me--fantasy football and homework. Oh, woes me...Anyway, I wanted to highlight a song that was posted earlier this month. While my fellow blogger felt it was sufficient to simply list this song in a "random day of awesomeness", I must respectfully disagree. This song deserves its very own post.

The song--"Pull My Heart Away." The artist--"Jack Penate." The rub--a beautiful indie-rock song that gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it because it makes me envision it being performed live in a dark arena, and near the end of the song when the chorus is being chanted the music cuts out and all that continues to carry the chorus is the sound of the crowd clapping and singing in sweaty unison.

Jack Penate - Pull My Heart Away

And as a bonus, a remix of Jack's song "Be the One" that shows ol' Jacky Boy can and should be utilized in the hip hop scene. Ten to one Kanye scoops him up for a guest spot on an upcoming song.

First Song off Dr. Dre's Detox and Majestic

Finally! A song off Dr. Dre's long-awaited Detox.....well, kind of. Dr. Dre has long been accused of Ghost Writing (a term in the hip-hop community used for when another rapper writes your verse for you). This is a very derogatory term amongst hip-hop heads. P. Diddy notoriously lost a lot of street cred when word of him ghostwriting got out. Lately tracks have been surfacing to prove that the rumors of Dr. Dre using ghostwriters to be true. First the track off Eminem's latest CD 'Crack a Bottle' had an early version released with Eminem rapping Dre's verse for him, and now the first song off the Detox album has been leaked, but with....Ludacris rapping the verse for Dre. While this may seem ludicrous at first, it isn't that damaging to Dr. Dre's career. Hell, writers of music in all genres have employed this tactic throughout time; Elvis didn't write anything he sang. These tracks with one rapper doing a verse for another rapper's album are called 'reference tracks'. It appears that Ludacris is the ghostwriter for Dre on this track and he went ahead and gave him a 'reference' verse to help him out. While normally this wouldn't be exciting, Detox is THE most hyped rap album of all time, and after all...it's Ludacris, we're not talking about some no name ghostwriter. The song sounds great at first listen, but is definitely a DJ cut, and not quite studio quality. Here is your first (real) taste of Dr. Dre's Detox!

Ludacris for Dr. Dre - OG'z Them (Prod. By Dr. Dre) - (MP3)

(After you get the song in iTunes, Right Click on the Song: Click Song Info: Options: Start at 0:20. Gets rid of the DJ Nonsense at the beginning. Hopefully I'll have a better quality rip for you soon)

The PR Rep for 'Sound of Arrows' just dropped us a track for another one of his artists 'Majestic'. This rapper will draw strong comparison to Wiley...which is a good thing. I really enjoy this track. We're told Majestic is an MC who cut his teeth on the UGK circuit performing with CKP, EZ, Logan Sama and The Wideboys who made him there official MC. Together they have made an Electro tinged slice of pop brilliance called 'In The VIP' which you can listen to here. The track we bring you today is a freestyle he sent remixing La Roux's Bulletproof ... and the track is proper rank. Enjoy.

Songs of Entourage

This season of HBO's Entourage if you have been following at all you should know has been legit. Highs, lows, hookups and panty-raids, and of course Johnny Drama. I have always thought the music placement in the show has been spot-on. And I was reminded of this when credits rolled recently and I heard Yeasayer- Sunrise. Overall, this season has hit the mark. Whether its dropping some Eazy- E after an episode or sneaking in some Metric into Turtle's ride to class. It's the little touches you see. I've delivered some of the songs that made the cut for my top songs of the season. Also, a Hey Champ Mix. You can find the Metric remix if you look back a few posts.

Wallpaper.

If I was cool enough to have an entourage, Wallpaper would be in it.

This remix brings New York in the 80's straight to your doorstep, and you gotta love the lyrics--I'm trapped in the underground, east side on my way downtown. Bright lights hypnotize, blue pills dilate my eyes. I'll ride the chandelier, through the roof right off the pier. Swim home in a stranger's bed, cool myself in a stranger's sweat.

Music For Animals - Nervous in New York (Wallpaper Remix)

Although summer is technically fading away, it's still scorching in Gainesville. So this weekend with the Gators playing on the road the pool scene should be in full effect. This original by Wallpaper is off his new album that dropped yesterday.

Fear of Tigers

London's Fear of Tigers debut album is due out Summer 2009, and though Fear of Tigers is one of the most consistent remixers, I don't quite know what to expect. FoT can take the cheesiest song and make it a banger. Most of his songs are upbeat and feel-good, utilizing the sexiest synth sounds out there. The remix of Dawn of the Dead by Does it Offend You? Yeah? is a very subtle departure from the original, which is usually a quip of mine. What is the point of remixing a song if you're not going to completely stand it up on its head? However, FoT finds a way to deliver. I just got my hands on a brand new remix of Into the Clouds by Sound of Arrows...I hope this instrumental is a taste of what is to come on Fear of Tigers album. Speaking of Tigers in London, next time you visit I highly recommend Tiger Tiger nightclub in Picadilly Circus. All of the songs below are completely awesome. Enjoy.

Little Dragon

Machine Dreams
is the newest release from the artist Little Dragon, an electronic music band based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Little Dragon consists of Swedish-Japanese singer Yukimi Nagano and 3 others that have been friends since high school. They hit pop success in the 5th season of Grey's Anatomy with the song 'Twice'. Their second album has taken a different direction. It has many influences ranging from R&B and Folk to Electronic and Synth music(think Depeche Mode meets Prince). All these influences were fused together in their sophomore album which should surely extend their reach even further.

Yukimi Nagano- "these days, humans seem more and more like machines, and as technology evolves, machines feel more human and it becomes fuzzy and beautiful and science fiction-ish. We feel dependent on our machines to create and live, and their sounds reflect us"

Flight of the Conchords and Love

Valentine's Day might be half a year away, but for some reason it feels like love is in the air today. Everywhere I look, I'm stumbling upon hysterical, romantic parody content...and I'm loving it. I haven't had a chance to get my hands on their full CD yet, but I did have a few Flight of the Conchords tracks from their upcoming album sent my way. I love the show, but I think that I might love these tracks more. Their latest CD, I Told You I Was Freaky, is probably capitalizing on the timing of the release of Lonely Island's Incredibad, but rightfully so. The market is primed for some good self-degrading, R&B parodies...and FOTC delivers with 'Hurt Feelings' and 'We're Both in Love With a Sexy Lady'. I love the dynamic duo in 'We're Both in Love With a Sexy Lady'; bouncing lines back and forth similar to Usher and R.Kelly in Same Girl. I thought my day was made after hearing these two tracks, but then the icing on the cake came in the form of this video:

I'm guessing this was the eHarmony of the 80s. These dudes are priceless. (Are you my Goddess?)

Electro hip-hop

There seems to be a growing trend of merging electro and hip hop and I am certainly a fan of this direction. I mean, does anyone still listen to "gangsta rap"? And while I try not to hate on the likes of Soulja Boy ("The guy made a million dollars."), no one can argue that his hits have been anything more than adult sing-a-longs possessing the musical insight of a fifth-grader.

Ok, enough hating, here is some electrip-rop, electro-hop, electrihop, or whatever you want to call it.

Bloc Party

Bloc Party is one of the best bands on tour today. They are also one of the most consistently remixed artists. I remember rocking their Banquet (Phones Disco Remix) at parties almost two years ago, and I've probably had at least one Bloc Party remix on my iPod's 'Current Favorites' playlist ever since. Bloc Party liked remixing their songs so much themselves that they did a full release in 2005 called Silent Alarm: Remixed, chopping-up and blending their first studio album and more recently releasing Intimacy Remixed, a remix album based off their newest material and limited to 5k copies. While this first remix album is a bit lackluster, the second remix album is very solid. However, I could make five Bloc remix albums on my own that would be playable from start to finish. Signs, is one of Bloc Party's newer [and better] songs, and every remix I've heard of it so far has been proper rank. I've included my three favorite 'Signs' remixes, an amazing Alex Metric rendition of 'One More Chance', and as a bonus an amazing acoustic version of 'Signs'. Get it.

Basement Jaxx

So unless you’ve had your ears glued to the underground scene you may not have heard much out Basement Jaxx duo over the past few years. With their forthcoming album ‘Scars’ which is complete and finally being mastered the anticipation is almost over. I think they’ve really started to come into their own, really hit their stride if you know what I mean. This new release will include a host of special guests, yes….Yoko Ono, Santigold,

Lightspeed Champion, Yo! Majesty, Cyndi Lauper, and Sam Sparro to name a few. I got my hands a couple of the tracks. ‘Raindrops’ is the first single and is far poppier than the grime that Basement Jaxx may have been known for. Some say this is them wanting to appeal to a larger audience. I say just shut up and listen. “My Turn” a ballad about a woeful romance is paired with a pounding dance floor beat and the electro touch all makes for a perfect backing. I’ll be celebrating all the hits when ‘Scars’ arrives September 22nd.

Top 5 Commercial Songs of 2009

The Mad Men of 2009 have been killing it with their advertising lately! The TV commercials have been stepping their game up, and the result has been enjoyable ads played to amazing songs. With all the talented releases as of late, it's time to give you my top 5 Commercial Songs of 2009.

5) Bacardi Mojito - Matt and Kim - Daylight

Great song. Great commercial. Not much else to say about this one!

4) Geico - The Sounds - Don't Want To Hurt You

I've been loving this song at pre-parties for a while now. The caveman may be getting played out, but this song will be on rotation on your playlist for a long time.

3) Lincoln - Shiny Toy Guns - Burning For You

This commercial was the one that gave me the idea for this post. I was very surprised to see such exquisite taste come out of such a bland company as Lincoln, but it looks like they've changed direction as of late. I'm a huge fan of Shiny Toy Guns. Their new album, Uncle Tom is coming soon, and the single is available now on iTunes.

2) Bud Light Lime - Santogold - Lights Out (DJ Mehdi Buddy Light Remix)

Santogold is my favorite female artist out there right now, and this is the best song by her. I hate Bud Light Lime, but I LOVE this song. Lights Out!

Miike Snow - Animal

Miike Snow's self-titled debut album dropped in May this year, so perhaps this post is a tad late, but no self-respecting blog can go this whole year without saying something about this trio from Sweden (hence the double "i"). Miike Snow is made up of singer/songwriter Andrew Wyatt and the Grammy Award winning production duo Bloodshy & Avant. This duo has written and produced songs for the likes of Madonna, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Kelis, and Jennifer Lopez. With production chops like that, it's no wonder Miike Snow's album is so damn good.

While they could have gone too far with the electro glitz and gloss, Miike Snow shows commendable restraint and the final product is an easy-listening, indie pop album sprinkled with just enough electro goodness.

Their first single, "Animal", is a perfect example of the their arrangements and is a good taste of what the rest of the album has to offer. It also highlights Snow's ability to compose thoughtful, yet catchy, lyrics. Included below are my two favorite remixes.

The Mark Ronson remix takes "Animal" down a subtle, Jamaican path that leads to a relaxed, tropical beach where you sit in the shade of a palm tree and sip an ice cold pina colada. Punks Jump Up, on the to other hand, beefs up the electro synths and add a punchy bassline that highlights the song's catchy chorus and makes dancing involuntary.

Just Jack & AFI

Things a little slow in the blogisphere this week so I thought it would be a good time to post a couple songs from some new albums that have just hit the street and an AFI exclusive from the upcoming album. The first of which being ‘All Night Cinema’ from the U.K. boy Just Jack who really turned things up a notch this time around proving that he has more in the repertoire than a couple of one hit wonders. Fred Falke puts the finishing touches on 'Doctor Doctor'.

‘Medicate’, the first single from AFI’s forthcoming album, CRASH LOVE, has just recently premiered and is already making waves. CRASH LOVE hits stores September 29th, and can be pre-ordered now on I-Tunes.

New Kid Cudi and Jay-Z Albums

It's been a big 2 weeks for hip-hop. Jay-Z released his third 'Blueprint' to success and Kid Cudi attempts to transform the game with his out-of-this-world style. I got my hands on a copy of both official albums, and took part in some serious sampling of hip-hop's finest this weekend.

In honor of Kid Cudi taking hip-hop in a new direction, I've upped his two tracks produced by RATATAT. The guitarist produciton duo from NY has been tearing up the underground for a while now with their instrumentals and rap mashups, but it is very nice to see them get full production credits on a major rap album. On top of that Kid Cudi brought MGMT in to feature on one of the tracks! Genius move. I also love that he broke Man On The Moon down into five acts. This is a move I anticipate catching on for official CD releases in the future, as the sale of whole albums is slowly becoming extinct. It is also rumored that Dr. Dre might have been doing a similar act breakdown for his upcoming Detox album with Denzel Washington doing the narrative...now that is an album I am anticipating.

Regarding Jay-Z, I've always thought him to be a little overrated. He is an absolutely amazing rapper, and he is definitely in the top 7 of all time, but he is NOT the best. His lyrics aren't as intricate as Eminem's or as meaningful as Nas or 2Pac's. On top of that his selection of beats has always been below par in my eyes. His flow is one of the greatest, but I'm sick of him letting us know it every song. Stay classy when you're at the top, we don't need to hear you brag about how good you are Jay, we know you're good. Maybe mix up the material a little bit while you're at it. I just thought that by the time you're at Blueprint 3, you'd have some more meaningful subjects to write on. However, there is a single that has stuck out to me and I give Jay props for having the imagination to collaborate with Empire of the Sun (this inspired solely from hearing Standing on the Shore at the end of an episode of Entourage).

EDIT: I had to go back and add the track Young Forever. This is one of my favorite Jay tracks in a while. You're sure to recognize the hook, and it was a great way for him to end the album.

Speaking of sick, I'm on my second day of the flu. It's made it's way to Florida, and I visited the multicultural disease center that is Disney World over the weekend. I'm really hoping this is the normal flu, and that I'm not swineing. Onto the tracklists and some songs to sample:

Mr. Hudson

With the first college football weekend upon us, there is sure to be non-stop debauchery in college towns everywhere. Here are two Mr. Hudson jams off his new CD, Straight No Chaser, that are sure to liven up the party, and prompt your friends to ask you who is singing these awesome tunes, and then this really hot chick comes up to you and is all like, "O. M. G. I effing love this effing song! You're cute," then one things leads to another, yada yada yada, you wake up with a throbbing headache on Sunday, and luckily the chick left early without waking you, and now you have homework to do and you need a chill song to put you in the mood, but don't worry, we got you covered there too with the String Quartet version of "Supernova." Space Cowboy and LMFAO

I stumbled upon the LMFAO remix of Falling Down last night, and instantly loved this song...my feelings slowly changed as I began to anticipate the spite I would feel for it after the months of rotation we're all about to encounter at local clubs and while hearing it on the radio in a friends car (How do people still listen to AM/FM radio these days????). I decided I should get it up here as quickly as possible, before it becomes the most overplayed song everywhere you go. The song is by Space Cowboy, Lady GaGa's DJ, who is emerging on the American Pop scene following her success. The song has some cut-up GaGa vocals in the background, but is really done right with the addition of the white hot LMFAO. Even though "I'm in Miami Bitch" is being played everywhere I look, I can't get enough of these guys. As a bonus I posted 2 extra tracks to display some more of Space Cowboy's diverse DJ talent. On top of his original song (how does a French DJ sound so Reggae by the way???), I've included I Would Die 4 You, a cover of a classic Prince song, and his remix of Poker Face which is by far one of the best remixes of this song to date. The man can sing, DJ, Cover, and remix...he does it all!
(Bonus 2: I got my hands on a rare copy of the Moonbootica and Nuco Club Mix of the Space Cowboy - "I Would Die 4 You". If you'd like to hear it, email us at FourOH7@gmail.com and I'll hook you up!)

And on a side note, our posts might be a little light this weekend. As you all know we are from the beautiful state of Florida, and being so, we are all die hard Florida Gator football fans. The season kicks off this Saturday, which is also Labor Day weekend, so it is sure to be a shit show. I've been going to Gator games since the age of 3, so bare with us if the posts are a little skimpy through Monday. In honor of the Gators going for their first undefeated season ever, I present you with this:

A Special Post For Our Readers...

We at FourOh7 are intent on proving our worth to all of our loyal supporters out there (whom ever you three may be). So today we show some respect to the ladies and what better two to talk about then Sally Shapiro and Imogen Heap. These two released albums less than a week ago so I cant really tell you a lot about them except they will be in some sort of rotation of mine for awhile. I'm just not sure which playlist they will fall into (maybe "songs I want to make out to"). What I do know is that Heap allowed fans to follow the progress of her new album via twitter (with over 1 million followers) and video blogs. In Ellipse, Heaps’ third solo release she presents mini-symphonies of herself and calling this presentation ethereal would be an understatement. It’s beautiful.

On The far end of the pop spectrum sits Sally Shapiro the “Swedish Princess” whom is unlikely to quite hit superstar status. Likely, because she refuses to play live or do interviews (a no-no in the pop world). Still, her sophomore album My Guilty Pleasure is immaculately produced and grants a listen.

Below are some obvious standouts from the album or maybe not so obvious. Buy the album and you be the judge. But wait theres more! Also, as a kicker I'm throwing in a remix from the Jackie Jackie – EP. Why? Because it's our goal to see you walk away from FourOh7 happy today.

Kid Cudi

Here are a couple Cudi tracks I have really been feelin lately. First up is a remix of "Rollin" by Jack Chain. I would write something about or include a picture of Jackie Chain, but trust me it would ruin it for you. Guy is cheese...even though I do like his voice and flow. Despite his cheesiness, I love this song (mostly because of Cudi's verse). For the past week, it has been my go-to song when I hop into my car, or when I want to feel like a badass thug...

I initially had mixed feelings about N.O.R.E. On the one hand, I liked his ties to electro. On the other, anyone who tweets during a performance is gay. But after hearing this song, he's got my stamp of approval. As for Cudi, he oozes cool and here he provides the hook and the final verse. Love the lyrics on both mens' part--listen closely.
