Junior Boys

On Monday night in what was a quiet and deserted downtown Orlando the Junior Boys served up something exceptional for an undersized crowd in a small venue @ The Social. The synth-pop delight duo out of Ontario quickly let their talent be known as front man Jeremy Greenspan put the crowd in a melodic toe-tapping hypnosis with Parallel Lines. The show opener, a song that is a metaphor between two lovers and memorized words is the song that makes you wish you were cool and did just that for over 5 minutes. From the surface it hard to imagine that these average whitebread canucks would immediately inspire some sort of kinetic sensuality, but that’s indeed what these guys are about, and that’s exactly what they did. The Junior Boys blend heart felt vocals with a style that reflects early 80s pop to early 90s R&B and dance. Just as they emanated sexuality in their sound their was always the tension for change lurking towards a climax. Although, that climax often didn’t happen it still had many looking like convulsing monkeys by the stage. There was also some subtleties in the set heard in the song ‘Teach Me How To Fight’ the song that created a fan in me in 05’and ‘Birthday’ which was dedicated to keyboardist Matt Didemus(his bday) who remained unanimated in concentration with hardly a glimpse at the audience.

In a sense this show was special for me being in my own backyard especially after an attempt to see a show that never happened in NYC due to 2 failed mixers earlier this summer. I wish more electro-pop groups toured venues like this one. So now I sit back only to wonder if Junior Boys will ever come back to Orlando. Will O-town ever embrace or recognize when such great acts like this make themselves so accessible. Seems like if more people knew Junior Boys they will come back. Kinda like being in the minority of knowing about artists that are this kewl.

I "stumbled" upon this and was pretty mesmerized. This girl is sick. I would definitely pay to watch this.

NightWaves- Fascination

Here at Four Oh 7 we don't often get around to covering a lot of low-fi/dreamwave, but it's not for lack of love for this particular genre. So we understand a mention of this particular duo is probably long overdue. Sitting on the forefront of dreamwave music enter the artist NightWaves. NightWaves are on the label Binary, a record label based in LA with intentions of bringing songwriting back to the dance floor.

The third single from the compilation album LA lights is the song Fascination, "we really see this song as a maturation and a growth as a group. It's our favorite to date, and hopefully a taste of whats to come in the future". This track is full of emotion with vocals transported right out of the 80s and is virtually begging for an artist like Junkie XL to put a pulsating twist on it. Junkie is known for Drawing out the vocals and lengthening out the chorus and does it to a T here. Bit Funk, an artist they have previously worked with was able to add a more punchy and bouncy feel to Fascination which makes this one another standout. Lastly, is Keenhouse's 80s synthed out remix(the snths sounds like a excerpt from a Doogie Howser ep) which might have your feet and other appendages dragging you onto the dance floor against all remaining will.

Bag Raiders Mixtape

To all you loyal followers out there, I apologize for our lack of posts as of late. But as a special gift for being so patient, I am posting a 28 minute mix produced by my favorite Australian blokes, Bag Raiders. Included is a nice collection of fairly easy electro that plays well at a party or in the background as you clean up after a party.

Good Music

Couple songs hot off the presses, and a couple that aren't so much. We've told you about Ellie Goulding in the past, well here she is again with 'Under The Sheets' which aired for the first time in the UK about two weeks ago(kinda over being 2nd fiddle to the UK's good music) but has finally reached your speakers. Plus, Mr. Hudson has released his all you can handle Auto-Tuned album 'Straight No Chaser(still kinda fire wont lie). Feel like he's probably the UK T-Payne. Really like the strings in this single, make sure to check out the rest of the album. The other tracks are sort of filler i suppose. In My Lifetime from the Streets is Watching before he started catering to the pop world is one smooth jam. 'Don't Change' is one of my new favorite songs and I don't mean just songs from the 80s(dont ask). From INXS to Hov, Have we proved were eclectic yet?

Ellie Goulding- Under The Sheets

Mr. Hudson- Straight No Chaser

Jay-Z- In My Lifetime (Remix)

Dragonette - Fixin to Thrill (Villians Remix)

I've really been enjoying this tune all week. Villians once again add some sick electro energy to the track. Also, I love how DJ-friendly this song is--Villians provide a great intro and outro featuring some chopped vocals (which I am a sucker for) without making the song too long. Oh and the breakdown at 2:30 is orgasmic.

Big Boi

Some insight on the new album from Maurice Garland. Big Boi may not be signed with Def Jam yet so if that deal falls through I still cant see it effecting the success of this album. Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is complete and will be out soon. After its release around the holidays people will have no choice but to stop considering him second rank to 3-Stacks. Couple exclusives off the album here. Their Hot Fire, Dylon Dylon Dylon.

Big Boi- Fo Yo Sorrows (Ft. Too Short & George Clinton)

Big Boi- Shine Blockas (Ft. Gucci Mane)

Tonight I'm pumped to attend the first ever Hype Machine Monday in downtown Gainesville, FL. It should be a refreshing night with tons of amazing music. Hypem.com's GTMcKnight will be there helping divvy up all the pumpkin spice beers. If you're in Gainesville feel free to swing by, and if you've never been to the Hypem website...do so NOW.

The track of the day is currently (10/12/09) #1 on the Hypem Popular Charts:

Mayer Hawthorne - Green Eyed Love (Classixx Remix)

Thursday--the last day before the last day of the work week. The penultimate workday. Friday's eve. Or, for those still in college, Friday.

Whatever you call it, it's a good day to relax. Enter Classixx's, um, downtempo-elctro-house-dreamwave production and Mayer Hawthorne's hazy, soul-infused vocals--a musical tranquilizer.

Uffie - Pop The Glock (Mirwais Pop Remix)

Really cool video for Uffie's single, "Pop the Glock." Her debut album, Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans, is scheduled to drop in early '10. I hope this remix makes the cut.

Emancipator

As Floridians we sometimes find it hard to understand what it means to have a seasonal change. There are no clear or concise lines when it comes to the first days of Autumn that i notice except the sun begins to set somewhat earlier. Our falls are comparable to most summers for anyone in the Northwest. Although, people still feel they should embrace this change or even celebrate it. Cold weather or not, leaving the summer behind has always been associated with feelings of being melancholy and looking inward. I think if there was a soundtrack for this time to help you to embrace fall Emancipator would be on it. (Ironically fitting name) "Soon it will be cold enough" was originally only released in Japan but has been re-released here in the states so check it out. Its hard not to love this music mixing hip-hop beats to delicate guitar strings and piano. You can hear heavy influences throughout this album from Aphex Twin to RJD2. You can go a long time and not hear a song as good as the remix he put together of 'Shook'. Enjoy

Emancipator- Wolf Drawn
Emancipator- First Snow
Emancipator- Soon It Will Be Cold Enough to Build Fires
Emancipator- Shook(Mobb Deep And Sigur Ros Remix)

Chromeo - Night By Night Chromeo (pictured at top) has just released their first single from the new album, Night by Night, and it is Funktastic.

Chromeo - Tenderoni (MSTRKRFT Remix) - In honor of Chromeo here are two great remixes, this one is of a Chromeo original...

Vampire Weekend - Kids Don't Stand a Chance (Chromeo Remix) - ...and this one a remix of Vampire Weekend by them. This is in my top 3 songs of all time, just an fyi.

Deadmau5 - Strobe - 10 minutes of pure gravy off the Mau5's (Mouse's) new album.

Deadmau5 - To Play Us Out (feat. Bill O'Reilly) - Listen all the way through...LOL. Deadmau5 utilizing a few samples from the classic Bill O'Reilly blow up

Medina - You and I (Deadmau5 Remix) - In honor of Mau5's new album, here is a sexy remix of Medina's You and I by him.

Harlem Shakes - Strictly Game (Kids at the Bar Remix) - I'm calling it now...Kids At The Bar are gonna be huge. Keep an eye out. Great track.

Eazy-E - Real Muthaphuckkkin' Gs (Dskotek Remix) - OK, this might be my favorite song on the list right now! I've never heard a song quite like this one. Just aggressive craziness for 3 minutes, a sickkk Eazy-E flow, then get nasty again to close out the song.

Shiny Toy Guns - Starts With One (Classixx Remix) - Another Classic Classixx

Lady Gaga - Paparazzi (Stuart Price Remix) - Stuart Price is a legend amongst producers/DJs. He used to produce for Madonna, now he's with GaGa. Is GaGa the next Madonna? Probably. Is this track tight? Definitely.

Chiddy Bang feat. Passion Pit - Truth - They're Chiddy Bang, and they're pretty much amazing.

DJ Kronic - Cocaine (Intro) - Called an intro, but this is a great track to slide into any Party Playlist

Santigold feat. Andre 3000 and Bun B - You'll Find a Way Player (Terry Urban Southerngold Remix) - The whole Terry Urban Southerngold mixtape is extraordinary. This is the best track from it.

Shoops - Do Me, Work It (Thunderheist Jerk It Cover) - Just a fun, upbeat party song from the (white) Montreal rap duo.

Phoenix - Love Like a Sunset - What a unique song. A long intro, but do yourself a favor and listen to all of it.

Bon Jovi and Kid Cudi - Prayer N' Night (The Hood Internet Mashup) - The Hood Internet is hands down the best consistently good mashup talent out there right now. This is one of their better tracks as of late.

(Odissi - Empty Vodka Bottles (Pyramid Remix) - Empty Vodka Bottles. Empty Vodka Bot bot bot.
