Foals
Foals
Total Life Forever
Release: May 10
'Total Life Forever' the follow up to their 08 release 'Antidotes' was released everywhere today. Foals have crafted an album this go round that has given them identity. It's dark, ghostly and deceptive. Each song starting out as one thing and ending up as something else. With confusing guitars and calculated electronics it will take more than just one listen to discover each songs complexity.

If your expecting the party bangers that Foals previously produced you wont find them(although 'Miami' has it's moments). What is there is the maturity of the Oxford five-piece that has recorded an album based on emotion and mood. This is a definite step forward for the band and shouldn't be looked at as anything else.

B.o.B. and Eminem
The emergence of one rapper, and the resurgence of another.
B.o.B. hails from the ATL, and is making a good impression quickly. With a sample-an-indie-rock-song-for-your chorus style, a'la Chiddy Bang, and credible appearances from T.I.
, Eminem
, Lupe Fiasco
, Hayley Williams of Paramore
, and other stars it's difficult to not give him credibility. While it is tough to figure out if 'Bobby Ray' has a style of his own that is built to last based on just this album, it is even tougher to argue that he didn't produce one of the best rap albums in a long while
.
A side-story of this album is Eminem making an efforted comeback to the rap scene. His verse on B.o.B.'s Airplanes pt. 2 is one of his most emotional and well put together dissections of the English language since Lose Yourself
dropped. After listening to his verse for the first time, I felt inclined to go outside, workout twice, and pull an all-nighter every night for the next 2 months. Couple this with his self-realization and critique of his childish, annoying and unnecessary voices used on Relapse
, and it is tough to not anticipate his next release
. Airplanes pt. 2, The Despicable Freestyle in which he takes shots at Ben Roethlisberger, and Not Afraid (the first single off of Recovery
) are three consecutive strong showings for Em, and are a positive sign that he may have one more classic rap album left in the tank.

LCD Soundsystem
New to LCD Soundsystem? Don't feel that bad. James Murphy's previous releases had some moments, danceable yes, but always lacked that je na sais quoi quality(those previous albums did recieve a few grammys). But this soon to be released album, 'This Is Happening' has had a slightly different effect in its short leaked existence. I'm a fan.
About two weeks ago I found myself surrounded by 75,000 other coachellians under the desert sun and a song I never heard "All My Friends" started to play and it hit me how good this really is. That song ended and next we were were treated to what seemed to be a rather long intro to a song off the awaited album not too many were familar with..yet. 'Dance Yrself Clean' will leave you wanting to relive that feeling you got when you heard "that part" for the first time(trust me you'll know what part). I have been trying to relive this moment since. If you figure out how to do this please let me know, otherwise you can always just start the song over like I have done repeatedly since.

Pogo - Upular (Rynecologist Edit)
Pogo is a music producer that specializes in creating songs entirely from sounds within movies. He's pretty much a genius at it. Here's what he did with "Hook":
Impressive, eh? Head over to his website to read more about this guy and see the rest of his videos as well as a collection of his discography.
Finally, I want to leave you with the song that schooled me to Pogo. It is composed of sounds taken from Pixar's "Up." Rynecologist edited it slightly and had this to say about it, "I know the track is no different from the original because on a creative standpoint, I wanted to keep the essence of Pogo’s great micro-sampling in it’s genuine state. In a DJ’s perspective, I personally made it for myself so people could groove to it at a bar/club/event. I wasn’t expecting a copious amount of people responding to it. Let alone downloading it." And he really didn't change much at all. I haven't compared them too much, but he probably just lengthened some sections to make mixing easier.
It's funny Rynecologist used the words "groove to it at a bar/club/event" because this song will definitely make you want to groove no matter where you are.

Jonsi
Front-man Jonsi Birgisson of the Icelandic ensemble Sigur Ros has officially released his first solo album 'Go'. If yall didn't know Sigur Ros have take some time off as some of the members are getting older and having kids(via maturity) while Jonsi has also been working on his solo project. I honestly haven't even given it a full listen but it had to be mentioned. First reactions are this sound is much more upbeat than Sigur and lyrics seem to be mostly in english. Jonsi has started touring the U.S. where he will be stopping by Coachella on sunday and playing his final shows May 8th & 9th in New York. The album is currently #20 on the UK charts.

Hangin Out With Centra That's My Mantra
Somwehere in between Ratatat, Toro Y Moi and Figurine you can find the sounds of Javelin. Javelin is a band that has been on my radar for awhile now but only knowing of a couple songs(one being titled 'std')I hadn't quite given them their deserved listen. Javelin consits of Tom Van Buskirk and George Langford, who started making music together in Providence,RI in 2004. Now residing in Brooklyn they have made a living performing with their sounds ranging from chill instrumental, looping samples with uses of whatever they prolly have laying around their apartment. They are currently touring with Yeasayer.
Was the recession responsible for inspiring chillwave music?
Are bands too poor because of pirating to afford studio production anymore?
What is next for chillwave?
Javelin- Oh Centra
Javelin- Vibrationz
Javelin- Mossy Woodland

Berndsen
Berndsen are the Icelandic ensemble that should fill all your 80s synth-pop cravings. I guess i'm like a millions years late(like 2 months in blawgesphere time) on hearing of them but who gives a shit. This video should inspire some odd emotions if nothing else. Is this an instructional video for "what to do in case of a car crash?" Not sure if I am supposed to feel sad or inspired after seeing it. Feeling like i could use a hug.

Flight Facilities - Crave You
Flight Facilities just released a new single, "Crave You." I've been following FF since last summer and they hardly ever disappoint. As a member of Bang Gang records, are you surprised? Those Aussies know electro like no other.
To get the original track along with a host of remixes (including ones from Cassian, Ted & Francis, and Graz<---me likey), head here to Beatport. What I have for you today is an unofficial remix by Bxentric. This is the first remix of his that I've heard and I'm quite impressed. While there isn't much you could have done wrong remixing "Crave You", Bxentric did a hell of a lot right. I especially like how he emphasized the conga-like drum pattern. Oh, and let's not forget Giselle's absolutely gorgeous vocals. After this song, big things lie ahead for this Australian siren.

Still Wearing Fake Gold
Its not very often that these 'good' artists come to play in the cheesiness that is Orlando. But when they do, I get unnecessarily excited and start the countdown on my calendar, plan my outfit, basically treat it like it's the prom. I was excited to see Tigercity yet again after seeing them in December. Three months ago, I honestly just went to see French Horn Rebellion open for them but realized Tigercity was awesome too. This time was no different with Joel wearing his signature skin-tight skinny jeans. But guess what? There were about a quadruple times more chill bros in the crowd, salami-arm dancing, taking pics and vids on their iPhones, and singing along. So this makes you wonder... Did they get that much more popular in only 3 months difference? Or was it just because it was a Saturday night in Orlando? Did blogs like this help expose them?

Ellie Goulding - Not Following You
Damn. I really love this song (below). I can't believe it's not on her new album. It pairs a catchy and plucky guitar with Goulding's sultry and ashy voice. A perfect tune for lazy Sundays. Also, this video is sexy. Enjoy!

Coachella

This is a picture of a sign that was seen at SXSW which has raised many questions and made me somewhat weary of flying to Palm Springs and attending 'Coachella april 2k10'. Is this sign directed at music blawgers? Was this intended to keep people like myself from really feeling apart of this years biggest music festival? Hoping to run into much more friendly-blawger accepting people at the most relevant concert this year. Should I make fake press passes and bring my google analytics report to Cali?
In accordance to the upcoming fest of music, mayhem, dirty hippies, and inflated prices I've attempted to sort and pluck a list of artists from the upcoming show to make your life easier. You and your bros can come to an agreement on which artists will create important meme's of discussion that is unless there are time conflicts, then which your on your own.
